John Dalziel / Ss Racing
Columbus Motor Speedway
Conquering Columbus:
John Dalziel will have a few extra hours on Friday night to conquer the Columbus oval during a test session before racing on Saturday. Driver, John Dalziel
"My success on race day depends on the test on Friday night. We ran well my first race at Plymouth, because we had plenty of time to test. Unfortunately, that was not the case in Anderson, so we struggled that night on the track. We had our backs against the wall."
"This weekend we have plenty of time on the track. I think things will be tip-top, and this could be the best weekend we've had yet."
Learning the Stock Car Circuit:
Scotland-born, John Dalziel grew up racing road circuits in Europe. Driver, John Dalziel
"I've learned that my competition can run hard. It seems like you are just running in circles, but it's much more difficult than it appears and the guys in this series do it very well."
"The competition is pretty fierce. These guys like to bump and rub, which I'm not really used to. It's a cultural shock from Europe, but I'm intending to bump some people back this weekend."
"A lot of people have offered advice on how to run well in the stock cars. Everyone wants to offer an opinion on how things should be, but I think if you listen too much to other people, you lose track of what you're doing yourself. You take the advice and then make your own decisions." Team Owner, Ken Smith
"When you get into a small racing venue there's really no way to get out of the way. The veterans are used to pushing people out of the way, but John did great. There was hardly a place on the car that wasn't bumped or nicked, but he kept the car out of the wall.
"He can either run with his competition or he can back down. That doesn't mean he gets overly aggressive, but he needs to say, 'I'm not going to just take it.'"
"Short track racing is intimidation."
Fighting the Heat:
Drivers battle 135 to 140 degree temperatures in the race cars. That Driverproved to be an unexpected challenge for the rookie. , John DriverDalziel
"My main concern in the car is adjusting to the heat. I've taken some steps for this weekend that I hope will make a difference. The heat is a big factor. I have to adjust to that in order to get comfortable in the car." Owner, Ken Smith
"I watch veteran drivers pilot their cars for hours, and they seem impervious to the heat in the car. And then, I see young drivers suffer heat exhaustion and have to quit the race. It baffles me, because you'd think the younger drivers should be able to absorb that."
"It's like climbing into your oven heated on warm and exercising strenuously in it for an hour." fisch: not found
