ASA Late Model Series Press Releases (Part Two) for Thursday April 26, 2007

1. Introducing the Officials of the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division for the 2007 season.

Lexington, Michigan (04/26/2006): The Door Opener for the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts Northern Division is upcoming this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana. The cars and stars of the ASALMS Northern Division will kick off the 2007 season

This Friday and Saturday April 27-28, 2007 the immaculate 0.686 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval of the O'Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis will serve as hosts for the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products and Ed Martin Automotive Group.

A few new faces, as well as some new drivers and new and returning tracks, will highlight the 2007 season. With that in mind, we'd like to introduce to the fans of the ASALMS, the officials of the ASALMS Northern Division. Here is a capsule look at the fine folks who will all help make the ASALMS Northern Division events run smoothly throughout the 2007 season:

Ron Varney: Fifth season. The ASA Late Model Series Co-Founder and President. ASALMS Challenge, Northern, Southern Division Race Director: Lexington, Michigan.

2. Travis Dassow Wins First Race for "New" TD Racing Development. Now heads to Indianapolis for the ASALMS Northern Division Opener.

West Bend, Wisconsin (04/26/2007): Veteran Crew Chief Howie Lettow has led some big-time names to glory in short track racing. Guys like Tony Raines, David Stremme, Kenny Wallace, Ted Musgrave and even defending NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson have all won races while under the tutelage of Lettow.

Now, Lettow has a new protégé and a new team, 20-year-old Wisconsin-native Travis Dassow and the TD Racing Development team. And, after just three races together, Dassow has already found Victory Lane. Dassow and Lettow won Saturday's Glassbreaker 200 at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio, the young driver's first-career ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division win after two years of trying.

"We've been working really, really hard," said Dassow, whose TD Racing team took over the reigns of the now defunct WalTom Racing team and inherited most of the crew and cars, including Lettow. "I've always been my own crew chief the last five years I've been racing Late Models. It's already been a lot less stressful on me."

"As a driver, it's been a lot easier on me. I don't have to come in from each practice session and have to worry about what's wrong with the car. I just tell Howie and he takes it from there. That makes it so much easier. It's nice to go to the track and know that you are going to have a good car."

3. Peter Cozzolino hopes fast start in the ASALMS Challenge Division carries over to the 2007 ASALMS Northern Division opener in his hometown.

Indianapolis, Indiana (04/26/2007): The one race that has been circled on his calendar over and over is here for Peter Cozzolino and the Cozzolino Motorsports Team. The Indianapolis, Indiana veteran is returning home for the 2007 ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts Northern Division Season Opener.

The ASALMS Northern Division Season Opener is in Cozzolino's backyard! The A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products and Ed Martin Automotive Group is set for Friday and Saturday April 27-28, 2007 just 10 minutes from the Cozzolino Motorsports Race Shop at the famed O'Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis (Formally Indianapolis Raceway Park).

For the remainder of the 2007 season, Peter Cozzolino and his Indianapolis, Indiana based Cozzolino Motorsports Team will run the full schedule of events in both the ASALMS Challenge and Northern Division with hopes of capturing both Championships and is widely considered a strong favorite to accomplish the double feat!

In a field of 50 Pre Entries and counting, Cozzolino's name stands out near the top as one of the drivers to beat in the Door Opener for the ASALMS Northern Division. Based on his fast start in the three ASALMS Challenge Division events conducted thus far, A Third, Ninth, and a Sixth in three starts, Cozzolino sits a solid Sixth in the season long Challenge Division Points Standings.

4. 17-year-old John Wes Townley is revved up for the NASCAR Grand National Division East Series Opener.

Watkinsville, Georgia (04/26/2007): 17-year old Georgia-native and full-time ASA Late Model driver, John Wes Townley, is set to compete for the checkers in the NASCAR Busch East Series season opener at Greenville-Pickens (SC) Speedway on Saturday, April 28th. The race, the Greased Lightning 150 Busch East Event, will be filmed for a tape-delay broadcast on the nationwide SPEED Channel.

Many of NASCAR's best and brightest stars have raced at the famed Greenville-Pickens Speedway, which has been around since the earliest days of NASCAR racing. Townley is driving for STI Motorsports owner Glenn Rudolph and carries sponsorship from Zaxby's, Lang Signs, BB&T, PFG Milton's and Athens Quality Glass. He will be running a car adorned with a legendary number - 3.

With the increased emphasis that NASCAR has placed on its newly-merged Busch East Series, some of the nation's top talent is expected to compete on a weekly basis. Most NASCAR NEXTEL Cup teams are using the Busch East Series as their on track proving grounds for future talent.

Townley hopes to be counted among them-and soon. He has experienced success in every other level of racing in which he's competed, including go-karts, 600 Racing Bandelero Class cars and most recently, the ASA Late Model South Division. Last October, Townley topped nearly 61 other entries at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN, garnering the outside pole position in his first ever visit there.

5. Team Rensi Development Driver, 15-year-old Chad Finley to begin his quest for the ASALMS Northern Division Rookie title this weekend in Indy.

Dewitt, Michigan (04/26/2007): The time has come for 15-year-old Chad Finley and his quest for the 2007 ASA Late Model Series Northern Division Rookie of the Year title. The DeWitt, Michigan teenager, will continue his ASALMS career that began with three events in 2006 beginning this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Finley and his Team Rensi Motorsports/Team Finley Racing Crew will focus their efforts on the complete 2007 ASALMS Northern Division Schedule with hopes of capturing the 2007 Rookie of the Year Championship. In addition, Finley will also make select appearances in the other two ASALMS divisions as well; The Challenge and Southern Divisions.

The 2007 season for the Ed Rensi/Jeff Finley combination begins this Friday and Saturday April 27-28, 2007 at the O'Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis for the running of the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products and Ed Martin Automotive Group.

"I'm very excited to run at ORP because of the history of NASCAR and USAC Racing there and it's a fast fun track that will put on a show because it has multiple grooves that you can use to pass and race." Stated the 15-year-old Freshman at Dewitt High School.
