MONTGOMERY, AL - RIS - Despite rain Friday night and early Saturday Morning, Montgomery Speedway USA put on a full racing program Saturday night.

The action started with the Cadet division and it is likely that Robert Householder is wishing that the races never got underway. On the first lap of his heat race coming out of turn four a group of cars got together and left him nowhere to go and in attempting to avoid the mass of cars he hit the end of the inside wall head on. Fortunately the tire and water barriers did their job and he walked away unhurt. His car however suffered serious front end damage. In the Cadet Feature it was Mike Rhodes who took the win.

In Pure Stocks Mike Cockrell took the win, but not until there was another head on collision when Keith Sherrill spun in turn three and stopped on the track facing the wrong way. As cars attempted to avoid him, David Wise had no place to turn and hit Sherrill head on. Both were unhurt but have some work to do this week on their cars.

Robert Smith extended his win streak to four as he once again took the checkered flag in the Super Pure feature. Dubby Lewis was second and Marshal Shoemaker third.

In the Sportsman division David Lester took the win with Freddie Clifford second and Billy Lockhart third.

In the Late Models, Duwayne Middlebrooks took the early lead followed by Chris Mullinax, David Bonnett, Burt Belter and Heath Clark. The order remained static until Mullinax was forced to the pits on lap 31. Chad Merrill moved up to challenge late in the race but then faded back. Middlebrooks took home the win, Bonnett was second and Clark held on to the third spot.

KNOXVILLE, TN - RIS - Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN and Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN scored victories in the Twin 35 lap Late Model Features Friday night at Atomic Speedway. Ogle held off a late race challenge from Rick Williams of Crossville, TN in the first feature to score a wire-to-wire victory in his Rocky Hill Amoco Warrior/Chevrolet. Ogle started on the pole after out-qualifying the 24 car field with a time around the 1/3-mile high banked clay oval in 13.56 seconds.

Williams charged from the sixth starting spot to challenge Ogle late in the race. At one point Ogle stretched out to a full straightaway lead, but that was erased by several caution flags. Once Williams worked his NAPA Stinger/Chevrolet around Terry Shannon of Pilot Mountain, TN for second, he closed on Ogle, making several tries for the lead on the inside groove, but had to settle for second.

Patrick Duggan Of Lenoir City, TN brought his Waldrop Transmission Stinger/Chevrolet home in third, with Shannon's City Bonding Warrior/Chevrolet in fourth, and Vic Hill of Knoxville, TN rounded out the top five in the Pennzoil Warrior/Chevrolet. Weaver finished in sixth spot, which put his NAPA Stinger/Chevrolet on the pole for the second 35-lap Feature.

At the drop of the second feature green flag, Weaver took the lead and never looked back, as he dominated the race. Duggan moved up on the opening lap to battle hill for second, and when the two cars made contact in turn two, Hill hit the wall and collected Brad Coffey of Maryville, TN and Dan Duggan of Lenoir City, TN.

After the restart, Weaver checked out on the field, while Duggan settled into second. Williams challenged early, but engine problems sent him to the pits. Ogle came from the sixth spot early in the race to the third spot, but could never challenge Duggan for the runner-up position.

Weaver and Duggan made it a one-two sweep for the Stinger chassis, with Ogle third. Following the lead trio under the checkered flag were Shannon and Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN who rounded out the top five after starting tenth in his Weeks/Chevrolet.

In other action, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN won the 20 lap Open-Wheel Modified feature, and the 20 lap Super Stock feature was won by Lynn Selby of Crossville, TN. Jackie Courtney of Knoxville, TN won the 15 lap Pure Mini feature and the 15 lap Pure Street Bomber feature was won by Jason Capps of Knoxville, TN.
