The C.L. Bryant Northern California Modified Association hit the asphalt of Altamont Raceway Park after spending the previous week on the dirt.

These versatile sprinters completed two 8 lap heats with Larry Tierra's Pacific States Bank sprint finishing second in his heat, and finished for the evening when his fuel pump cable broke on the cool down lap. Heat two didn't prove any better for Kenny Rines who blew his motor on lap five of the 8 laps. Trophy dash saw Bert Siverling Oval Chassis Research machine on the pole, T.B.S. Couriers sprinter piloted by Scott Holloway on the outside, Ed Amador's Toste Farms machine filling the position of Kenny Rines, and fast time Dan Gonderman rounding it out. Gonderman took his C.S.Marine Const. machine right to the front and never looked back. Amador and Holloway, second and third, with Siverling taking fourth.

Ed Amador (second in combined points) held the pole, while son Steve Amador ran beside him for the 20 lap main. Holloway in Dave Jensen's machine started third, Siverling fourth, and Gonderman, asphalt points leader, fifth. This was as clean a race as ever seen. Holloway and Gonderman right to the front. The race was on. Holloway held on, Gonderman nippin' at the outside, nippin' at the inside. Twenty hard laps had Holloway taking the win and Gonderman right behind him. Ed Amador bringing it home in third, Sam Fries, fourth, and Steve Amador making a nice showing in fifth.

The story this evening ended up being the sprinters that endured. Russ Wullenwaber who put together a new motor and couldn't get it to start. Teixeira who's cable broke. Rines lost his motor, and Joe Kuderca left the track with motor problems on lap seven of the main. Seems Altamont was the big winner tonight. NCMA will return to this track on August 17th in the battle to gsterconquer the asphalt.
