New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 4) -- Modified driving star Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ, moved one ahead of division point leader Kenny Brightbill in the race for most wins at New Egypt Speedway, cruising into victory lane on Wawa Food Markets Night on Saturday for the tenth time this season. Going into the event, Pauch and Brightbill were tied with nine wins apiece.

“Turn 1 was difficult to run through, and it was getting slick in turn 2,” said Pauch, referring to the spotty showers that forced a rain delay midway through the 30-lap race. “Kenny’s tough and it was pretty tough racing, but we made it here again.”

Tom Hager got the jump on the green, battling John Leach for top spot. When Hager’s ride expired on lap 9, Tom Carberry grabbed the lead, while Pauch and Brightbill forged into the front group. Action was delayed on lap12, when a red flag waved for a Ken Wismer III flip and a brief rain shower. It was all Pauch and Brightbill when racing resumed, with Pauch holding the power hand right through to the checker. Roger Laureno trailed the dynamic duo, followed by Gary Butler and Rick Grosso Jr.

Double points and extra distance in the Sportsman ranks made for an exciting 25 laps, with Keith Brightbill of Sinking Spring, PA, scoring his fourth win of the season and retaking the division point lead, in a to-the-line thriller over championship rival Bob Worthington. “We had a couple of bad runs but now I’m glad to be back,” Brightbill told the crowd. Tom Eppolite Jr., Rocco Infante and Scott Reid completed the top five.

It was also double points and extra laps for the Street Stocks, and that was to Ralph Gargiulo’s liking, as the Brick, NJ, driver claimed his sixth win of the year. Gargiulo bested Pat Freiberger, Billy Bauer, Jeff Carpenter and Kenny Guyer. The win vaulted Gargiulo into second in Street Stock point standings behind Bauer.

Modified driver Scott VanGorder won the Mid-State Communications Cash Dash, collecting $250 for his efforts. One lucky fan took home $1,326 in the nightly 50/50 drawing.

Next Saturday, it’s Fan Appreciation Night at New Egypt Speedway, with lots of giveaways for fans. Mark Blackwell of Metal Fab will be handing out Wild Card Bonus Bucks to one top finisher in all three divisions. And children ages 10 and under can win trophies in the Delran Auto Body/Leach Racing Associates Kids’ Big Wheel Challenge. In addition, there’ll be face painting from 7-9 pm and cake for everyone! Gates open at 4 pm, and the whole night of action gets underway at 6:30 pm. A Sunday raindate with a 4 pm start is in effect for the remainder of the regular season. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4 and kids 6 and under are free.
