DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 23, 2005) -- East Coast racing fans will once again be treated to a full season of action at Orange County Speedway in 2006 as the track will see action for the first time since October, 2003. The track recently announced a 19-event program, this time under the American Speed Association Member Track banner.

"I am excited about the "re-grand" opening of the legendary Orange County Speedway and the benefits that ASA can offer to the facility and the drivers," said Vance Agee, owner/operator of the Rougemont, N.C. track. "Some of the most famous names in racing have cut their teeth on our asphalt, and we are really excited to have the opportunity to continue the legacy of grooming drivers for a future in professional motorsports."

With a slogan of "The Fastest 3/8-mile Race Track in America," this oval features 19 degree banking through the turns and 16 degrees on the straights creating four distinct grooves making the action fast, furious, and exciting. The grandstands stretch from Turn 4 all the way down the front to Turn 1, each seat offering unparalleled visibility of the entire track.

Further adding to the history, the list of former competitors reads like a "Who's Who" in stock car racing, and includes Jeff and Ward Burton, Elliott and Hermie Sadler, Scott Riggs, Todd Bodine and Bobby Labonte. Most recently the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series national champion, Peyton Sellers, ran his rookie year at the track. Even such notables as David Pearson and Glen Wood wheeled around Orange County Speedway back in the '60s when this facility first opened as a dirt track.

During 2006 the track will run four main classes -- Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Grand Stock and Pure Stock. Additionally, two special events are scheduled with the UARA visiting on May 20 and the ASA Late Model Series headlining the August 20 program. The season opens with a March 4 Test and Tune date, and the racing officially begins March 11. For more information, or to see the full schedule, visit www.ocstrack.com.

"This is one of the most legendary racetracks in the country, and it is an honor to have them select the ASA Member Track program," explained Dennis Huth, president of Racing Speed Associates which now owns and operates the ASA Racing Member Track program. "Orange County Speedway has been such a stronghold in American racing for so many years it is nice to see them back in action and returning to their rightful position as a leader in short track racing."

In explaining the decision to join the ASA Member Track Program as a Level I participant, Agee said two factors swayed his decision.

"Really, there were many things about the ASA program I liked, and was not able to get anywhere else," Agee mentioned. "The first is the points fund. ASA is offering to help increase the amount in our points fund so that it will be at a level much more indicative of the ability of the drivers. And naturally, as a track operator I need to be very aware of the insurance we offer. The ASA insurance package is very complete and something that I could not negotiate on my own. I think that the racers will be extremely pleased with the complete package that ASA will bring to our track."

Tracks and regional touring series that join the ASA Racing Member Track Level I program are eligible to receive contributions to their year-end point fund, marketing assistance, enhanced participant accident insurance, and will be the spot for today's fans to watch the stars of tomorrow learn the trade.
