A number of new teams have already traveled to Oswego Speedway for the 51st Annual Sunoco Race of Champions. In the Modified division Featherlite Modified Series driver Doug Meservey arrived at the speedway with hopes of making a successful return to Oswego Speedway. His only start at Oswego came in the Pro 4 division several years ago. Another new driver Brian Pack, hauled up from Walkertown, NC to try and capture the SMART Tour Modified bonus of $300. Pack has liked Oswego to this point as he drew the pole for the fourth starting heat. The pole slots for the heat races have been filled in the Sportsman Modified and Modified classes. As the top drawn numbers have been picked. The Late Model field is still wide open to any new teams that should arrive. Only four of the top ten starting numbers have been drawn out of a possible one hundred chips. The Street Stock top 28 qualifiers were locked in from last Friday's heat races with 12 remaining spots up for grabs via the two consolation events scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Any new Street Stock teams will need to start at the rear of the field in the consolation events.

Some notable Modified drivers will have to do some extraordinary driving in their heat races as they drew bad starting positions for their qualifying events. Out of a 100 draw chips (name and number they drew) Karl Hehr (80), Lee Sherwood (85), Ken Woolley (86), Danny Knoll Jr. (95) Super Modified drivers Mike Ordway and Greg Furlong will need to use their hometrack advantage well as they both drew high starting spots Furlong (91), Ordway (97). If will be entertaining to watch these hard chargers trying to make their way to the front for a qualifying spot in the 51st Annual Sunoco Race of Champions on Saturday. Heat racing begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
