Concord NC - Preston Peltier earns his first Super Late Model victory Saturday night in an attrition plagued race. The number 5 CRD powered Chevy Monte Carlo has been in contention for a victory all five of the 2004 Tucson Big Ten Series events with the young team pulling it off in only their eighth attempt.
Peltier missed the pole position by .002 of a second and started in the fifth Position due to the six car invert rule at the ½ mile asphalt Concord Motorsports Park. On the eighth circuit of the tri-oval, veteran racer Freddie Query (#8) was caught up in a wreck exiting the dogleg sending him hurling into the catch fence at nearly 120 mph. All drivers involved were uninjured. After a thirty-minute red flag to repair the catch fence, the race was resumed with Peltier restarting in the second position.
Peltier stalked leader Chris Dunn (#15) for the next 64 laps. Dunn, who had been oiling the track, exited the race due to a gear malfunction as Peltier cruised to his first victory with Kevin Stimberis finishing second and Eddie Massengill third. In an emotional victory lane celebration, Peltier dedicated his victory to the late Marvin Meendering, who had passed away three weeks ago to the day.
"The whole Meendering family is a key part of my success." Peltier stated. "The loss of Marv has been tough on our team which consists of five members of the Meendering family including one adopted son, me! I'd like to thank my wife Heather as well as Hickory Grove True Value Hardware and CRD Engine Development for the extra horse power this weekend." He added.
