Travis Kittleson's Rookie points lead shrinks.

Pendleton, Ind. (May 11, 2003) -- After three straight stellar performances, Travis Kittleson hit the first speed bump of the 2003 ASA Racing Series season. The Florida driver's lead in the chase for the $50,000 Rookie of the Year title shrank considerably after the Georgia 250 Presented by Jani-King at Lanier National Speedway.

In the early stages of the event, Kittleson was poised for another stellar performance, racing solidly in the top five. AS the lap counter clicked over to 16, Kittleson found Jesse Klug's crashed Chevrolet sitting in the middle of the track. He couldn't avoid Klug and crashed heavily, ending his chances for another solid finish. Kittleson managed to return to the track to gain valuable championship points in the closing stages of the event.

Georgia's Reed Sorenson put together an outstanding run at his hometown track to place fourth. He now trails Kittleson by eight markers. Sorenson has racked up two top-five finishes and three top 10s in the initial four events. Prior to the running of the event at Lanier, it was announced that Sorenson had signed on with Chip Ganassi Racing's driver development program. Ganassi fields Winston Cup cars for Sterling Marlin, Casey Mears and Jamie McMurray.

Consistency through the initial four events propelled Boris Jurkovic of Illinois into third position in the $50,000 Rookie of the Year Championship. Jurkovic finished 13th at Lanier and ranks seventh in the point standings. He earned his career- best finish of seventh at Concord Motorsport Park in the BFGoodrich Tires 250.

West Virginia racer Davin Scites racked up his second consecutive top-10 finish as he continued to climb in the standings. He advanced to fourth in rookie points and 13th in the overall standings. Texas standout Casey Smith is fifth in the freshman standings after positing a career-best third-place finish at Lanier.

Pennsylvania competitor Ryan Hemphill holds down the sixth position in the $50,000 Rookie standings with Tracy Gordon, Brett Sontag, Shane Sieg and Kris Stump rounding out the rookie crop.

The fifth event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Sunday, May 18 at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio. The ASA Racing Glass City 300 takes the green flag at 3 p.m. (Eastern) and will be telecast live on SPEED Channel.
