Salem, IN (Friday, October 3rd, 2003) - - American Speed Association veteran Ed Brown heads to the "bullring" of Salem Speedway this weekend, hoping to bounce back from Illiana and beat the legendary short track that has bitten his EBR team in the past.
"Salem is one of those tracks in which short track racing is all about," stated Brown.
"The track is fast, the action is furious, and sometimes well, you don't walk away with a clean car." In the past, the Ed Brown Racing team has not had the best success at the . 5-mile facility. A mixture of bad luck and close racing have levied the team with uncharacteristic results in the past, but the team is confident that the monkey is off their back and a top ten finish is in the picture this weekend.
"Salem is all about surviving, we want to be competitive, but we also have to be cautious, this is a long event, if we keep our game plan on and avoid any incidents that take place, we should have a good finish," mentioned Ed.
"We have to put on the best race possible for our sponsors Brown's Grubb's Auto Repair and ABC Millwork machine, while also with hopes of attracting new sponsors to bring to this team and to the American Speed Association," said Brown, who resides in Florida.
In the team's last outing from Illiana Motor Speedway, it was obvious that the team did not have the run they were looking for. Handling problems, and contact with other competitors left the team with a disappointing finish, yet a pretty intact race machine.
"I was hoping that Illiana could be one of our best showings of the year, it turned out not to be. That's racing, we were able to come home with our Chevrolet Monte Carlo in one piece."
The 2003 American Speed Association season is coming to a close rapidly. With two events left this year, the teams will head to Salem Speedway this weekend for the running of the Pep Boys Auto Parts 300 presented by Greased Lighting. Practice, qualifying and the feature event are all on taps this Saturday, October 4th with the green flag scheduled to fly shortly after 8:00PM EST with live coverage on the SPEED channel.
