FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 25, 2000) - Scott Bloomquist, the leading winner in the history of Hav-A-Tampa dirt late model auto racing, has many reasons for wanting a victory in the Wolf Brand Chili 100 Friday and Saturday nights, April 28-29 at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
Bloomquist, the 1994, 1995 and 1998 Hav-A-Tampa national champion, will lead the country's premier dirt late model racers into battle for the $20,000 top prize to be awarded to Saturday night's 100-lap feature race winner. A triumph in Texas would raise the Mooresburg, Tenn. native's lifetime series feature win total to 69, more than three times as many victories as any other driver. But there is more at stake than just another feature logged in the record books.
"Coming to Texas is going to be important for dirt late model racing," Bloomquist said. "It will give us a new and major market in Fort Worth and Dallas. We have seen pictures of the track and everyone is excited to get out there and put on a great show."
Hav-A-Tampa series point leader Rick Eckert of York, Penn., will be among those set to challenge Bloomquist. Eckert is one of seven drivers to visit victory lane in 2000 and has this year's most wins with four. Eckert leads Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky. by just ten points in the championship battle. Other top drivers expected to compete include Arkansas aces Wendell Wallace, Billy Moyer and Bill Frye along with Ohio's Donnie Moran.
Legends Cars will also compete both evenings on the dirt oval. For ticket information call the speedway hotline at (817) 215-8500. The event is being held in conjunction with the Star-Telegram AutoFest featuring the Pate Swap Meet.
Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series Point Standings 1. Rick Eckert, York, Penn. (4 wins), 1667; 2. Steve Francis, Ashland, Ky., 1657; 3. Scott Bloomquist, Mooresburg, Tenn. (1 win), 1573; 4.
