Corbett gets first Hooters ProCup Series win

MANSFIELD, OH -- Eric Corbett was able to pass Brian Ross on lap 212 and hold on to win the Simonson Builders & Simonson Excavation 250 presented by Bullet Motorsports Saturday night at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. It was the first win in his 14th career start in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series for the Maryland-based driver.

Ross held on to finish second and Jeff Agnew finished third. Joel Kauffman finished fourth to collect his first career top-five finish and Forrest Urban, Jr. completed the top five.

Corbett also continued his streak as the only the driver to finish in the top-five in all three Northern Division races so far this season. Corbett also became the third different driver to win in as many races in the division and the seventh different driver in as many races to win in the Series overall this year.

The field was started by points after rain washed out qualifying and delayed the start of the race by almost 30 minutes. Ross led the way the first 14 laps until Kertus Davis took the top spot on lap 15 and led until lap 52. Ross and Jeff Agnew exchanged the lead twice before Corbett took the lead on lap 212 and held on for the win.

"It was a good win for us and we had a good car," said Corbett. "I am glad we finally won one of these races."

Jay Fogleman, who won last week at Lonesome Pine Raceway, suffered mechanical problems during the warm-up laps but returned 88 laps into the event to finish a respectable 24th.

The race was a homecoming for several Ohio-based drivers with Lonnie Rush having the best night. Rush, from nearby Pickerington, started 23rd and finished a solid 7th for his first top-10 finish since last year. Scott Baker finished 14th at his home track.

Brian Ross won the Discount Auto Parts Pole Award and Jeff Agnew won the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award. Kauffman won his third consecutive Miller Lite Rookie of the Race Award with his top-five finish and Rush used his top-10 finish to garner Hard Charger of the Race honors.

Corbett closed to within five points of Ross for the lead in the Northern Division point standings (450-445). Agnew is third with 400 and Kertus Davis is fourth with 385 points. Kauffman sits in fifth with 382 points.

The USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division returns to action on Saturday, May 24th at Holland International Speedway in Holland, NY for the running of the Hooters ProCup 250 presented by Sunoco.
