Sarvis scorches field at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Myrtle Beach, SC-- Jason Sarvis rebounded from a disappointing 32nd place finish two weeks ago at Jennerstown Speedway in a very impressive fashion Saturday night at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
The Myrtle Beach, SC native came back to win his third race of the season, and first career Hooters ProCup Series win at his home track, Saturday night. Sarvis, who led 201 of 250 laps in the Mark Brooks Memorial Lucas Oil 250, also vaulted to second place in the standings and now sits just 20 points behind Clay Rogers after race #3 in the five-race Championship Series.
Steven Christian finished second while Sarvis' teammate Hal Goodson followed in third, with Rogers and Eric Corbett completing the top-five.
"This was the best car I have ever driven," said an ecstatic Sarvis in victory lane."I just want to thank all of the guys on the Naturally Fresh Foods team. They gave me such a good car anybody could have won in it."
Sarvis was able to regain the lead from Stacy Puryear on lap 198 after Puryear had taken the lead when Sarvis pitted for fuel and tires on lap 149. Christian, who was forced to drop to the rear of the field to start after arriving late to the driver's meeting, put on a show for everyone moving through the field and collected a solid second-place finish.
"I just didn't have anything for Jason," said Christian."We were good coming out of the turns and I thought we could have had a chance beating him out of the pits but he was just too strong tonight."
The race was slowed 13 times by cautions, highlighted by an incident on lap 64 that collected a total of 17 cars in turn three. The accident forced a 12-minute red flag period. Ray Peele and Michael Ritch were the only two drivers unable to continue in the race.
For the second time in three Championship Series events three-time defending Hooters ProCup Series champion Bobby Gill suffered mechanical problems which forced him into the pits for repairs and the Dalton, GA driver finished 28th. Shane Huffman, who entered the race at Myrtle Beach second in the point standings, suffered a busted radiator and was forced to the pits for repairs, finishing 29th after starting the race in third.
Clay Rogers maintains his lead in the point standings by a scant 20 points over Sarvis (558-538) who vaulted into second place after his dominating performance. Christian moved into third place with his finish and sits just 23 points out of the lead. Jeff Agnew is fourth in the standings with 522 points and Mardy Lindley and Jay Fogleman are tied for fifth with 511 points each.
Sarvis collected the Buffalo Nickel Buffalo Burger Pole Award, Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader and Southern Pride Lap Leader Awards in addition to his first-place winnings to collect $12,500 with the win.
Corbett used his fifth-place finish to win Miller Lite Rookie of the Race honors and Luke Hill advanced 19 positions during the race to win the W.J. Plemons Investments Hard Charger Award.
The Series will take next weekend off and return to Peach State Speedway in two weeks for the running of the Dan Duncan Memorial Hooters ProCup 250.
