Hooters Air to Host ProCup Cars at Myrtle Beach Speedway

Charity Golf Tournament Among Weekend Festivities

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The Hooters ProCup Series returns to Myrtle Beach Speedway for the first of two races this season with the Hooters Air 250 presented by Black's Tire Service. The annual spring race draws one of the largest crowds of the year to the historic track located along the popular Grand Strand coast of South Carolina.

If last fall's Championship Series race at the track is any indication of things to come, then the grandstands should be packed once again. Last October, Benny Gordon and Shane Huffman got together late in the race which ended Huffman's chances of winning the race and gave Benny Gordon his second consecutive win in the Series to challenge for the championship.

The Hooters Air 250 will feature six former winners of USAR Hooters ProCup Series events at the track. Michael Ritch won back-to-back races in 1998 and Mardy Lindley collecting wins in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Gill won this event in 2002 and Sarvis used his strong performance in the Championship Series race in 2002 to help him win the USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Championship. Huffman won an emotional race her last spring after going through a week many could not handle off the track.

Huffman was in a North Carolina hospital earlier in the week to visit his father who was seriously ill at the time and while his father's condition improved enough for Huffman to make it to Myrtle Beach, he faced more adversity. His team had brought a show car down to participate in pre-race festivities and overnight someone stole his show car and truck and trailer used to haul the car.

Everyone was all smiles though after the race as Huffman was able to dedicate the win to his dad and also give the team something to smile about after such an emotional week.

In addition to Sarvis, two more local drivers with ties to the track will be competing. Jody Lavender, who has competed in late model and All-Pro racers at the track and former track champion Stuart Ricks will be on hand as well to compete in the Hooters Air 250.

"Myrtle Beach is a place we definitely want to win at every time we go there," said Sarvis. "Me and my wife are both from Myrtle Beach so it means a lot to get to race in front of our family and friends. Hopefully we can give Jimmy Spencer his first win as an owner in the ProCup Series."

The race also marks the first time the Myrtle Beach-based airline has been a title sponsor on the biggest racing event along the Grand Strand. The airline, which began operations out of Myrtle Beach International Airport in 2003, will take an active roll during the weekend.

The airline features flights out of Myrtle Beach to such destinations as New York/Newark, Baltimore/Washington, Chicago/Gary, Ft. Myers, FL, Atlanta and the Bahamas.

The Hooters Air 250 presented by Black's Tire Service will also feature a charity golf tournament on Friday. This will be the fourth consecutive year for the Friday charity event hosted in conjunction with the race.
