USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Coming To South Boston Speedway
SOUTH BOSTON, VA--The USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series will make its second stop of the season at South Boston Speedway Saturday night, August 11, for the running of the Miller Lite 250.
Saturday night's Miller Lite 250, which will get the green flag at 7 p.m., will be followed by a 150-lap race for South Boston Speedway's Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division.
Advance adult general admission tickets are priced at $15 each and may be purchased until 5 p.m. Friday, August 10. Fans wishing to obtain advance tickets may do so at the speedway office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day now through Friday or telephone the speedway at 434-572-4947 or 1-877-440-1540.
Adult general admission tickets will be $20 each on race day. Tickets for youth's ages 10-15 are priced at $10 each. Kids ages nine and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
Grandstand gates will open and ticket sales will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Miller Lite 250, a 250-lap, 100-mile event, is the final race on the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Sears Auto Center Northern Division schedule and, as such, will determine the Northern Division champion.
Veteran racer Gary St. Amant of Delaware, Ohio holds the division points lead entering Saturday night's USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division finale with 968 points. Benny Gordon of DuBois, Pa. is in second place and trails by 65 points.
Rookie Brandon Ward of Winston-Salem, N.C. is in third place and has a 48-point gap over fourth-place driver Jody Lavender of Hartsville, S.C. A.J. Frank of Mooresville, N.C. is in fifth place but trails Lavender by only one point. Rookie Ben Stancill of Ayden, N.C. is in sixth place but is only 16 points out of fifth place.
Gordon is one of only two drivers that have recorded multiple wins in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series at South Boston Speedway. The defending Northern Division champion won here in 2004 and 2005. The other is Mario Gosselin who won here in 1997 and 2001.
Gordon has also been one of the top drivers in qualifying at South Boston Speedway, having won the pole three times in the last seven races.
In addition to the previously mentioned drivers, a handful of other competitors that are familiar to racing fans at South Boston Speedway are also entered in the Miller Lite 250.
That group includes former South Boston Speedway NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division regular Woody Howard of Chesapeake, Va. A trio of drivers that have competed at South Boston Speedway in the Late Model Stock Car Division in past years, Johnny Rumley of Summerfield, N.C., Jeff Agnew of Floyd, Va., and Carl Long of Troutman, N.C., are also entered in Saturday's event.
Plenty of excitement is expected in the 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division as well.
Adam Barker of Hurt, Va., who is trying to nail down his first career Late Model Stock Car Division crown, is the driver that everyone is targeting.
Barker has won 10 of the 13 races run in the division this season including three in his last four starts. He will bring a 58-point lead over Ford driver Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. into Saturday night's event.
Behind them is a tight three-way battle for third place with C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. occupying third place and standing just 10 points ahead of Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. and David Triplett Jr. of Timberlake, N.C. who are tied for fourth place.
Saturday's race day schedule has USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series practice going from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with Late Model Stock Car Division practice going from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
Qualifying time trials for the Late Model Stock Car Division will start at 3:30 p.m. with USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series qualifying set to start at 4:30 p.m.
A Fan Appreciation event during which time fans will be able to go onto the track to see the cars, meet the drivers and get autographs will start at 5:45 p.m. The Miller Lite 250 will start at 7 p.m.
