Lakeland, FL - On February 24 at Lakeland, Florida's USA International Speedway, Kyle Shoemaker, driver of the #27 S&L Equipment Rental, Inc, Smith Ford, Ford Taurus said, "If we make it here, we can make it anywhere." Barely making the impressive field of 40, Kyle qualified 35th and had given it his all. The engine had been down on horse power all day, which left him little to work with during the race. What to do now would be a Sprouse call. Don Sprouse, owner of the #27 said, "with all things considered, lets do what we came to do, RACE!"
Shoemaker joined forces with DSM back in December of 2001, hoping to improve his chances this year. His decision has paid off so far, and he's looking forward to greater things to come starting in April in Jennerstown, when we officially kick off the northern division tour of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series.
At the end of 250 laps everyone involved was pleased with a 19th place finish and earning the hard charger award. "This is more than we expected, all things considered. The car was in one piece, and we learned a lot about the track."
