PITTMAN, SCHMITT BACK IN WINNERS CIRCLE ON A&W / LONG JOHN SILVER'S NIGHT AT CRESCO

CRESCO, Iowa (June 5, 2005) --- Fans and drivers flocked to the Cresco Speedway Sunday for the seventh week of the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series. With some of the best competition and a get-home-at-a-decent hour Sunday night program, a hearty crowd was on hand for the annual A&W / Long John Silver's Kids Night at the 3/8-mile oval in northeastern Iowa.

After missing last week's show due to a crash the night before, Kevin Pittman of Waterloo returned to action, and returned to the winners circle in the USRA Modifieds. "Porky" started sixth in the field for the 20-lap main event, then powered his way to the front of the pack to pick up his third win of the 2005 season.

After dropping out of last Sunday's feature race with mechanical troubles, Darin Duffy of Hazleton returned to form this week with a familiar finish. For the fourth time in the last five races, Duffy had to settle for the runner-up finish -- and the third time behind the back bumper of Pittman's machine. However, Duffy's finish was good enough to wrestle the USRA Modified points lead away from Caledonia's Ron Konkel, who finished fifth on Sunday.

Brad Bakken of Garner finished fourth, with Kerry Ledebuhr of Winona, Minn., rounding out the top-5 finishers.

In USRA Stock Car action, Tom Schmitt of Independence made his fourth trip to victory lane as he topped a tough "A" main field to pocket the $400 top prize from his outside front row starting spot. Trailing in second through fourth positions at the finish line were Shay Curtin of Waukon, Jason Schlangen of Cresco, Tory Reicks of Waucoma. Last weeks' winner, Kevin Bidne of Decorah, completed the top-5.

In the fast and furious Hornet division, Steve Dwyer of La Crosse, Wis., also captured his fourth checkered flag of the season with a dominating performance from the pole position. Adam Ewing of Monona and Ryan Happel of Holmen, Wis., finished second and third, while hometown favorites Randy Koshatka and Chris Gooder were fourth and fifth.

Justin Elsbernd of Des Moines made his second trip to the winners circle in 2005 with a victory in the USRA Hobby Stock main event. Cresco's Steve Holthaus added to his points lead with a runner-up finish. Last week's feature winner, Kevin Donlan of Decorah, finished third while Ben Moudry of Protivin and Dillon Anderson of Decorah rounded out the top-5 finishers.

While repeat winners were the order of the day on A&W / Long John Silver's Kids Night, a first-time winner emerged in the Street Stock class as Andy Kelly of Lanesboro, Minn., took the checkers in just his third start at the Cresco Speedway. Jeremy Oakes of Spring Grove, Minn., settled for second place after an unsuccessful bid to take the top spot from Kelly. Carissa Wagner of Monona took third, while points leader Scott Spide of Ridgeway was fourth. David Kjome of Decorah finished fifth.

Another great night of racing in USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series is on tap next Sunday, June 12 at the Cresco Speedway with Waukon Harley Davidson Night featuring USRA Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks, plus Street Stocks and Hornets.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps slated for 5:45 and racing at 6 p.m. For more information call the Cresco Speedway office at 515-832-7944 or check us out online at www.CrescoSpeedway.com.
