HEJNA, BAUER, LANGE, SIMPSON, BIRKHOFER TAKE BRITT OPENERS

BRITT, Iowa (April 29, 2005) -- Mike Hejna was the class of the USRA Modified field during Rookies Rockin' Sports Bar season opening racing action at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway. Opening night action for the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series also racing in the USRA Stock Cars, USRA Hobby Stocks, USRA B-Mods and Hornets.

Hejna quickly pushed his machine out into the lead in the 20-lap main event, keeping Jeremy Mills and Zack Vanderbeek at bay early in the event. A few cautions early in the race kept the field close and on each restart, Vanderbeek would use the high line to keep second over Mills. Vanderbeek was unable to get within more than a car length of Hejna through the rest of the show. Vanderbeek came home in second, ahead of Brad Baaken and Dean Mahlstedt. Denny Anderson rounded out the top five positions.

Scott Bauer started on the pole of the USRA Stock Car feature and dominated the event, leading flag to flag. Tom Schmitt charged from the eighth starting spot and Jeff Nielsen came from ninth to finish third. John Campbell had a good run, finishing ahead of Cory Oftedahl in fifth.

In the USRA Hobby Stock class, John Madson jumped to an early lead and held off a hard charging Calvin Lange until about the mid-point of the race. Lange got by Madson and powered away with the victory. Madson finished second over Randy Hadacek and Chad Gentz.

Jake Simpson was the USRA B-Mod winner, but he had to do it the hard way. After starting on the outside of the front row, Simpson fell back to second on the start. Doug Cook was fast out front and it took a few laps for Simpson to pull along side in turn four. The duo made contact, with Simpson coming to a rest in the turn. Cook resumed control of the event and led until Simpson cleared traffic and ran down the leader. Simpson made the pass for the lead with about three laps to go.

The Birkhofer boys dominated the Hornet class. Justin Birkhofer held of brother Greg for both the heat race win and the feature. Robert Black came home third in the feature.

Racing resumes at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway next Friday night, May 6, for Hanson Construction Night at the Races. It is also Kids' Night at the track, with hot laps starting at 7 p.m.
