VERNON, NY- Utica-Rome Speedway track crews have been working tirelessy to put the finishing touches on the new ultra-fast surface that was laid down last fall. When the gates open this weekend at the "Action Track of the East" on April 17 and 18 for open practice, competitors and fans alike have their first look at the surface.

A two-day practice session has been scheduled this weekend to allow competitors a chance to tune and shakedown their equipment to the changes made in the offseason, as well as purchase season passes for the 2004 campaign. Gates will open at 11 a.m. on both days, with on track action running from 1-5 p.m. Pit admission will be just $10 with grandstand admission being free. This will also give fans an opportunity to reserve their seats for the season at an extra charge.

The practice sessions will lead up to the 43rd Season Opener on April 25 when Gates-Cole Insurance and Wilber-Duck Chevy/Buick present a 40-lap Sunoco/Aplus 150 358-Modified Championship Qualifier plus a regular show of DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Gates will open at 3 p.m. for the opener with racing action to begin at 5:30 p.m. Come and see who will gain the early advantage in the $10,000 championship on opening night. For more information, visit us online at www.uticaromespeedway.com, or call the speedway office at (315) 829-4557. The home of the DIRT 358-Modifieds in Central New York is located on Route 5 in Vernon, NY, just minutes from New York State Thruway Exit 33 and offers DIRT sanctioned racing every Sunday night in late April until mid-September.
