WHITE MOUNTAIN EVENT TO SET STAGE FOR TITLE SHOOTOUT

NORTH WOODSTOCK, New Hampshire - The International Pro Stock Challenge (IPSC) will make it's second stop on the 2000 season at White Mountain Motorsports Park this Sunday with a 150-lap feature, event number 10 on the 11 race 2000 IPSC schedule. With only six points separating the top three drivers in the point standings, the race may well tell the tale for the title.

With first place and third place being occupied by United States drivers and second by a Canadian, the series has become a true international challenge.

New Hampshire's Andy Shaw sits atop the standings with 1663 markers, followed closely by Nova Scotia's John Flemming at 1661. Maine's Ben Rowe is third with 1657 points. While Shaw has been leading since race number three on the season, Flemming has made up the most ground, moving from a deficit of 56 points after six races. Rowe sat four points ahead of Flemming at that time.

When the series visited White Mountain in early August, Flemming finished second, Rowe 11th and Shaw 19th among a field of 27 starters from a 41-car entry list.

All three drivers agree the title will probably go to the driver who has the most luck the next two shows.

"With it being this close and the calibre of the competition, it will be whoever gets out of bed on the right side that day," said Shaw, a winner on the series in Nova Scotia in July.

"This is awesome," said Flemming, winner of a race in Nova Scotia in mid-August. "I've always dreamed of being in this position. These guys (Shaw, Rowe) are great drivers and have great teams. Something as simple as a 10-cent part could break and take you out of the hunt."

"We're glad to be here again," said Rowe, the most recent winner on the series and second-place finisher on the 1999 season. "The team has been amazing and kept digging when things weren't going our way earlier in the year. Hopefully, we got the bad luck out of the way then."

Based on the guaranteed 24-car starting field, any driver in the top five in the current point standings could come home the winner and grab the $5,000 winners check.

Race fans will see a full afternoon of racing this Sunday with the IPSC card supplemented by the National Championships for the Dwarf Cars and also the A.C.T. Street Stock Division - a touring series based out of Vermont.

Action gets underway at Noon with the Snap-on Tools IPSC Time Trials, followed by heat races and features for all divisions. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $2 for children under 12. White Mountain Motorsports Park is located just off I-90 at exit 30, then 4 miles north on US 3.

OFFICIAL DRIVER POINT STANDINGS - TOP 10 (after August 26th): 1. Andy Shaw 1663; 2. John Flemming 1661; 3. Ben Rowe 1657; 4. Kirks Thibeau 1621; 5. Kenny Wright 1621; 6. Sam Sessions 1592; 7. Mike MacKenzie 1581; 8. Gary Smith 1580; 9. Adam Friend 1574; 10. Mike Riley 1560
