After the most successful year in its 5-year history, the Western Racing League's ACDELCO Late Model Tour finishes the 2001 season on Saturday night back where it began on May 26 - at Race City Motorsport Park in Calgary.

Trent Seidel of Saskatoon won that first race, and the second race at Sun Valley Motor Speedway in Vernon too, to take an immediate lead in Tour standings. Seidel is the defending champion of the Tour and is trying for a remarkable fourth consecutive title.

The only real threat to Seidel's chances will come from Barry Bischoff and Bill Royce, both of Calgary. Before this year, Bischoff was the only Albertan to have won a Tour race - at King's Park Speedway in Regina in 1998 - although he won the local Late Model title at Race City in 2000.

Royce was the 1999 Race City Late Model champion and will step down from driving duties after this weekend's Race City 100. Following on the heels of his best- ever Tour finish at Saskatoon in August, Royce would love to end his time in the driver's seat with a win in his final race.

The top Edmonton-area driver this year is Trevor Emond of Leduc. Emond won the third race of the season at Bridge City Speedway in Saskatoon and still has a shot at taking fourth in the season points away from Calgary driver Chris Skelton. Emond led almost all of the last Tour round at Regina before a late-race mechanical problem took him out of the running and allowed Alex Leschenko of Saskatoon to score his first Tour victory.

The ACDELCO Late Model Tour is sanctioned by the Western Racing League, which has been in operation for five years. This year's Tour was composed of five races in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. To date, 42 drivers have earned points toward the ACDELCO Late Model Tour championship.
