The race, which is part of the MRF MMSC National Racing Championship, was shortened to seven laps after polesitter Siddhartha Mehdiratta caused a start delay in bizarre circumstances.

Mehdiratta flashed his flashed his car’ headlights on the grid, something drivers are instructed to do in case of a technical problem.

It turned out that he merely wanted to check if he had placed his car correctly on the grid, but since his actions had caused a delay, he was forced to start from the pitlane.

When the race finally got underway, Tuhid Anwar led the field from Jeeth Jhabakh, with Saurav Bandyopadhyay making a rocketing start from eighth on the grid to jump up to fourth position.

On lap 2, Jhabakh successfully breezed past Anwar to move into the lead, with Bandyopadhyay also following through to move into second place.

Jhabakh then began to stretch out his advantage at front and when Bandyopadhyay locked up going into turn 2, victory became a mere formality.

He eventually crossed the chequered flag with a 2.556s lead over Anmon Singh Sahil, who had squeezed past Anwar for third and then moved ahead of Bandyopadhyay after he had his aforementioned off-track moment.

Pratik Pandurang Sonawane was classified fourth ahead of Shubhomoy Ball and Akshay Bhivshetti, while Tuhid eventually finished a lowly seventh.

Sandeep Sangharjka was eighth while Mehdiratta recovered from the pitlane start to end ninth, just ahead of female racer Shivani.

Mohite, who sweeped the opening round, suffered a tyre lock up due to a suspected technical problem and was eventually forced to retire from the race.
