Chennai Ameo Cup: Mohite impresses en route to maiden win

With the reverse grid for the top eight places coming into force for Sunday's race, it was going to be slightly tough for Saturday's winner Devin Robertson (South Africa). 

It turned out to be an interesting race and the eventual winner was Mohite, who started third from the grid and took his first win this season at the Madras Motor Race Track.

Mohite won by 6.448 seconds, ahead of Delhi's Karminder Singh and Robertson. Affan Sadat (Bangladesh), Anmol Singh and Tauhid Anwar (Bangladesh) took the next three places in the race that is part of the third round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship.

With the reverse grid applying, Rohit Goyal started from pole position. Robertson started eighth on the grid but showed spirit to move up the order.

Goyal got a lead of 0.864 seconds going in the first lap. But that changed to 2.9 seconds and then 3.4 seconds after two laps.

It was getting tough out there with Singh and Robertson fighting their way up. After just a couple of laps, Robertson had moved to the fourth place.

Meanwhile, with Goyal having a good run at the front, it was left to second-placed Keith Desouza and Singh to provide the entertainment.

On the fourth lap, Goyal dropped out of the race after making contact with another car. Mohite took over the lead and with Desouza in tow.

Taking advantage of the chance given to him, Mohite began to pull away with Singh 7.4 seconds behind and Robertson another second behind.

There was a lot of action elsewhere on the track but Mohite, with a clear track in front of him, was heading to complete the race without too much trouble.

It was only behind Mohite that the battle was happening, with Singh and Robertson vying for the second spot.

While Singh made up a second in the dying stages of the race, Mohite was an assured winner on the day.
