Cinjo Racing regroups for 2003.

Clinton Township, Mich. - Cinjo Racing has made the decision to regroup and prepare for the 2003 Trans-Am Series season due to economic reasons.

"It's unfortunate that we will be unable to race for a full season this year," said team owner Joe Tranchida. "We have made a concerted effort to find sponsorship for 2002, but we have been unable to realize our financial goal to field the car for the entire season.

"The Dodge Viper added a lot of excitement to the Trans-Am Series, and the fan support was incredible. We are anxious to bring the Viper back for the fans, who named Tommy Archer one of their top-three favorite drivers during the 2001 season. The BFGoodrich Tires Cup championship was our goal this year."

Archer drove the Cinjo Racing Dodge Viper to a fourth-place finish in the 2001 Trans-Am Series championship. He recorded a victory at Portland and added podium finishes of second at Mosport and third at Houston, finishing the season with six top-five finishes overall.

Archer owns three victories and 35 top-10 finishes in 47 career starts in the Trans-Am Series.

Tranchida remains hopeful of competing in several Trans-Am events this season, targeting the Lime Rock Grand Prix Memorial Day weekend event at Lime Rock (Conn.) Park; as well as the three summer races - at Mid-Ohio (June 29), Cleveland (July 13) and Washington, D.C. (July 20) that will be nationally televised by CBS Sports.

"We had a great year in 2001," Tranchida said. "We started with a new team, chassis, engine and body and we won a race in Portland, finished fourth in points and won 'Crew of the Year' honors. Not bad for our freshman year."

"But it takes money. We are still working on that part to hopefully do a couple of races this year and return for a full season in 2003."
