Denver - August 31, 2002 - After winning the pole position for Sunday's Trans Am event at the Shell Grand Prix of Denver, the #02 Trenton Forging Corvette was penalized one second by series officials.
The series noted that the penalty was in no way related to any technical or equipment violations. A team member inadvertently entered the impound area after qualifying. The series cited Racing Rule 1.5.4.5 which states, "Admittance to any area in which technical inspections are being conducted is controlled by the technical administrator " and issued the one second penalty. Stu Hayner will start the #02 Trenton Forging Corvette in sixth position.
The team released this official statement:
"Revolution Motorsports is committed to the philosophy that effort equals results.
While we are disappointed in the assessed penalty, Revolution Motorsports fully supports the Trans Am Series officials and their efforts to maintain equal and regulated competition within the series.
Our crew works within the rules to provide the most competitive cars on the track. Our drivers come with integrity and long-standing reputations for fairness and good sportsmanship. We would never compromise the hard work or good faith of the team, our sponsors or our families and friends.
As a new team for 2002, Revolution Motorsports' goals are realistic. It is our objective to go out each week and improve on the week before. For us, that is a victory. We could not be more pleased with the results we have had this year."
