Lazaro to fill in for Injured Archer
Clinton Township, Mich. - Anthony Lazaro will be filling in for Tommy Archer in the number 36 Cinjo Racing/Motorcity True Performance Viper at Sears Point. Archer is recovering from injuries he sustained in an accident last week in Chicago, fulfilling testing duties for DaimlerChrysler engineering. He is recovering and hopes to return to the seat at Portland in three weeks.
Lazaro has one start in the Trans-Am series, finishing seventh at Mosport in May. Lazaro comes to Cinjo through friend and team technical chief Will Moody. "I've known Will Moody for 9 years. I tested with Will at Putnam Park last year, so we know a little bit about each other. I did two races this year with Kelly/Moss in the American Le Mans Series until that deal ended. I am excited about driving the car. It is a weird opportunity with Tommy's misfortune, especially when the team is on the verge getting that first win.
This will be Lazaro's first ever race at the Sears Point. "I think Sears is one of the most challenging tracks in the country. I am looking forward to racing there. We will have to get the car handling properly. Sears is not a big horsepower track. The emphasis is on handling because there really isn't a straightaway. The biggest challenge will be for a little guy like me to see over the Viper hood," continued Lazaro.
"We are sorry that Tommy will not be able to drive, and we wish him a fast recovery. Anthony did a nice job driving at Mosport this year in his first Trans-Am race, and we are confident that he will be able to do a good job in the Viper at Sears this weekend," said Joe Tranchida, owner, Cinjo Racing.
The Sears Point race will be televised live on CBS, July 21 at 2:30 p.m. EDT . <pre> Trans-Am Points Standings: 1. Paul Gentilozzi Jaguar 134 2. Johnny Miller Jaguar 129 3.
