MILLER KEEPS FAST FIVE STREAK ALIVE
For Immediate Release
MEDIC DRUG GRAND PRIX OF CLEVELAND July 11, 1998- Johnny Miller and his PLCDirect sponsored Miller Racing team kept their fast-five qualifying streak alive by qualifying 5th fastest for this weekend's NTB Trans-Am event. This is the 7th fast-five qualifying position for Johnny and the team this year.
Miller, who qualified with an average speed of 102.21 mph, toured the 2.106-mile Burke-Lakefront circuit in 1:14.175 seconds. Miller's time was considerably quicker than those he posted in the first practice session.
JOHNNY MILLER - "We missed the set-up right out of the box. The car was very uncomfortable in Friday morning's practice session. Scott, Quinn and the whole crew did a remarkable job of changing the car for qualifying. We made 10 major changes to the car between the morning practice and Fast Five qualifying. We now have a car that is faster than me; I am going to catch up in the race."
Johnny, currently 2nd in NTB Trans-Am Championship points, is coming of a career best 2nd place finish at the Sprint PCS Grand Prix of Minnesota. The team has been in contention for a win all season with three podium finishes in 6 races.
JOHNNY MILLER - " The team has provided me with incredibly fast and reliable cars all year. We basically take second hand stuff and we love on it a little bit. What we try to do as a team is avoid all of the controversy surrounding the series and concentrate on making our team and equipment the best it can be and try to win races.
This is the first time ever (at Cleveland) that we have not started from the back. Last year we had a rub-block hitting on the nose which caused us to be sent to the back after qualifying. Two years ago we had a piece of safety wire stuck in a tire and elected to change the tire for safety reasons which required us to start from the rear of the field. This is our first Cleveland race where we will start where we qualified."
Johnny is joined this weekend by his Grandmother Dorothy Miller (82 years young) who drove in from Tennessee for this weekend's event. John's appetite for speed and excitement comes naturally; Dorothy has been an active pilot in both small planes and hot-air balloons and continues to be active in the prestigious 99 Club a pilot association for females only.
