RJ LOPEZ HEADS TO THE ROLLING THRILLS THAT ARE ROAD AMERICA
Miami, Florida(June 16th, 2010)- RJ Lopez will bring the number 6 Lopesport Racing Disco 106/Goodyear/ECR Engines Chevrolet Corvette to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for round four of the 2010 SCCA Pro Trans-Am Series championship as part of the NASCAR Nationwide Road America 200. This weekend's visit to the historic and daunting race facility marks a return engagement for Lopez who has found past success around the four mile scenic track.
"I am really looking forward to getting back to Road America," said Lopez. "I have had a mixed bag of results here, winning a SCCA National in 2008, then leading the 2009 Trans-Am race briefly before experiencing a tire issue which resulted in a disappointing finish of 13th position. We know we can run fast here as evidenced by our lap times last year and running in the top five consistently."
Following a satisfying finish of third place on the podium at the past event at Miller Motorsports Park, Lopez and crew look to unload at Road America and immediately get down to business. The team, lead by crew chief Mark Meissen, completely over hauled the number 6 Corvette after returning home from Utah. The team experienced handling issues at MMP and adjustments were made to the car's setup prior to leaving for Road America.
"We have made several changes to the front suspension to make sure we do not have the same problem again, especially at Road America," commented Lopez. "With this track being such a high speed adventure, we left nothing to chance and intend to run up front all weekend. Mark and the guys, well, they did what they always do, prep a great car."
Lopez will bring a familiarity to this weekend's track, allowing time to be spent dialing in the driver and car and going fast. "We have a fresh ECR piece in the car and we plan to go as fast as possible starting with the first practice. This will be the first race this season where I am actually familiar with the track, so that will at the very least put us on a level playing field with our more experienced competitors," said Lopez.
Lopez, currently third in the overall points standings, knows that as the series reaches its halfway mark of the schedule, ever possible point earned is another step towards the championship. "We went into Utah leading the points. Unfortunately we slipped down to third, still well within grasp of the number one spot. With nearly 20 cars entered for the race this weekend, including points leader Tony Ave and Tomy Drissi in second, both fast guys, we have to be on our A game. I am confident we will be," stated Lopez.
All of the racing excitement starts Friday with practice for the Trans-Am Series followed by qualifying on Saturday and the waving of the green flag on Sunday afternoon at 1PM local time.
Next up for RJ Lopez and the SCCA Pro Trans-Am Series is Road America, the weekend of June 18 through the 20th.
