Tom Gloy Racing sixth at Road America.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 17, 2002) - Tom Gloy Racing driver Randy Ruhlman finished sixth today and teammate Butch Leitzinger finished 16th racing on the road course located in the Wisconsin countryside.

The first Trans-Am race was held here in 1970 and the tradition continued today as the 23 car field took the green flag. Ruhlman, driving the Preformed Line Products/Coyote Closure Chevrolet Corvette, waited to charge at the end after long yellow flag cautions and a red flag that stopped the race. Ruhlman started eighth for the 25 lap event, and for the eight races of the season has seven top-ten finishes and two top-five finishes.

Leitzinger, driving the Tommy Bahama Chevrolet Corvette, started the eighth round of the 2002 BFGoodrich Trans-Am Series in 21st, but made it up to second place. He made contact with another car creating handling difficulties that eventually forced him into a run-off and gravel pit. Leitzinger pitted twice to clear the gravel and debris and went on to finish 16th.

"This is the second half of the season and we are still in the top-ten in points," said Ruhlman. "We are in the hunt for year-end drivers' points. We just couldn't get the car going today. I thought I had fifth, but couldn't get it there at the end. With four races left we are in a good position. We are going into a new street course at Denver. I love to race on street courses and hopefully Butch and I can duplicate our podium finishes from Trois-Rivieres."

For the eight races of the season, Tom Gloy Racing has three wins, seven top-five finishes and twelve top-ten finishes.

Four races remain in the Trans-Am Series. The next race will be held in lower downtown Denver on the streets surrounding the Pepsi Center. Round nine will be on September 1 on the new 1.65-mile, nine-turn street. It will air on SPEED Channel, on September 8, 2:00 p.m. ET, tape delay; check local listings.
