Archangel'S Ben Devlin going for driver'S title at Petit.
October 10, 2002 Road Atlanta, GA -- Archangel Motorsport's Ben Devlin comes into the last round of the American Le Mans Series Championship only 11 points shy of first place in the LMP 675 Driver's Championship. The tenth round of the ten-round ALMS Series -- the Audi presents Petit Le Mans -- will be held this weekend, October 10-12, at Road Atlanta, Georgia.
Archangel is hoping for racing's version of the home field advantage as the crew is based just outside of Turn One at Road Atlanta. The championship-winning sportscar team has been competing all-season long, with Sebring being the only exception, and has proven to be both fast and reliable in a category plagued all year with severe reliability issues. In six straight ALMS races this season Archangel made six visits to the class podium.
Team regular Ben Devlin will be joined in the team's #13 Lola B2K/40 Millington by George Forgeois and Atlanta's own Jason Workman.
"We stand a very good chance of winning the Driver's Championship here," said Devlin. "We need to beat Jon Field so we hope to have a better finish than him -- but what we really want is to win. The car feels pretty good and we're feeling pretty confident. Last year we had a 2nd in class here and hopefully we can home with a win this time."
"I'm very excited about Ben's chances to win the title," said Workman. Toward that end we need to keep it on the track and keep it safe and stay out of trouble. So far, everything looks really good and I'm real excited to be racing here because it's my home track. I raced here last year with Archangel and we got a 2nd in class and hopefully we'll get 1st this year."
"I've raced here many times in open-wheel," said Forgeois, "Formula Ford and Formula 2000. I won here three years ago in the rain. I kind of feel as though this is my home track and the team is like family. I did Watkins Glen this year with the team and I really feel that we are going to do some good things here at Road Atlanta."
The Audi presents Petit Le Mans is as 10-hour or 1000-mile race, whichever occurs first, and can be seen live on the Speed Channel beginning at 11:00am ET. The endurance classic can't also be heard live via the "net: on the American Le Mans Radio Web located at www.americanlemans.com.
