Joey Scarallo Seeks Repeat Performance at Infineon
SONOMA, Calif. (June 26, 2004) -- Joey Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 ROH Wheels/Group A Autotrend/Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette in the Motorock Trans-Am Series, was seventh and ninth fastest, respectively, in today's first- and second-round practices at Infineon Raceway. Scarallo recorded 1:17.315-minute lap (91.636 miles per hour) in first round, followed by a lap at 1:16.672 minutes (91.942) in the second round. The sophomore Trans-Am driver is looking at repeat performance here of his career-best fourth-place finish in Portland last weekend.
"The schedule is tight this morning, and we're just a little bit behind the eight ball," said Scarallo. "Infineon was repaved, resulting in a much tighter grip. We chased the set up just a bit, but we think we'll have something for qualifying
"Our Baucom Motorsports team is making radical changes to the car for qualifying," added Scarallo. "Those changes should net positive results this afternoon."
A long-time racer, Scarallo has been in the driver's seat since he was 11, racing karts in the Long Island Karting Association, where he won three championships in 1993. Scarallo also won championships in the International Karting Federation in 1996, and he recorded three top-ten finishes in the U.S. F2000 where he finished 14th in series points. He ran a limited schedule in 1997, scoring 11th- and 12th-place finishes in his three starts. Scarallo competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series in 2000.
The oldest of four siblings, Scarallo, 25, lives in Smithtown, N.Y. Scarallo manages Autotrend Tire and Wheel Company Inc., his family's wheel importing business in Lindenhurst, N.Y. The third round of the Motorock Trans-Am Series Championship takes place on June 27 at 4:15 PDT, immediately following the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race.
