Tracy and three other Canadians competed in the TA2 class of the Trans-Am series. In the “big” class, road racing veteran Chris Dyson secured his first career Trans Am Series presented victory.

In TA2, Justin Haley captured pole position in his Ford Mustang. Tony Buffomante gridded second ahead of Misha Goikhberg from Woodbridge, Ontario in his No. 25 BC Race Cars Chevrolet Camaro.

Tracy, stepping in behind the wheel of the No. 87 3-Dimensional Services Group Chevrolet Camaro for team owner Doug Peterson, qualified in tenth position, but was forced to change a set of badly flat-spotted tires, moving the Camaro back to 25th starting position.

Another former IndyCar driver, Rafael Matos captured his first career Trans Am Series victory today. Making his seventh start in the No. 88 3-Dimensional Services Group Chevrolet Camaro, Matos secured what had proven to be an allusive win through a second-to-last lap pass over Justin Haley during the 40-lap, 101.6-mile race. Haley would finish second while Tony Buffomante captured third.

Paul Tracy took the start of the contest in 25th place. The veteran racer moved up quickly, taking tenth before the full-course yellow and overtook Keith Prociuk for eighth on the final lap. Tracy was not really happy that his rival ruffed up his bumper in Turn 3, and decided to “pay back with interest” a few corners later, spinning him to claim eighth place at the finish.

Canadian Louis-Philippe Montour, in the No. 13 Montour Ltd Chevrolet Camaro, was the highest placed TA2 Southern Cup finisher with tenth place.

Misha Goikhberg set the fast lap of the race but crossed the line in 12th place. Fellow countryman Mike McGahern from Ottawa finished 22nd in his Chevrolet Camaro.
