GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 25, 1998) – Paul Gentilozzi, in the No. 3 AutoLink Chevrolet Corvette, will start on the pole for Sunday's 64-lap, 101.2-mile NTB Trans-Am Series race at the West Michigan Grand Prix in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Gentilozzi, of Lansing, Mich., scored his fifth pole of the season with a time of 1:14.958 (75.882 mph), while his teammate Bill Saunders, in the No. 8 AutoLink Corvette, will start on the outside pole after posting a time of 1:15.405 (75.432 mph).
Brian Simo, in the No. 2 Valvoline Ford Mustang Cobra, qualified third, followed by Randy Ruhlman, in the No. 49 Preformed Line Products Mustang Cobra, and Bruce Qvale, in the No. 44 Huffaker/Qvale Motorsports Mustang Cobra.
Both Ruhlman and Qvale will make their first NTB Trans-Am Fast Five Qualifying starts in Sunday's race.
"We've always taken a liking to street circuits, and thought we had a good change here on a level playing field," said Ruhlman. "Since no one has raced here, we all have the same opportunity to learn the track. I'm thrilled to be in the Fast Five and look forward to the race."
