Sixteen-year-old Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind., who became USAC's youngest National feature winner ever earlier this season, scored another victory Saturday night in the 40-lap WorldCom National Midget Car race at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.
East led all 40 laps from the pole position in his Team ASE Pink Chevy/Beast to beat Steve Lewis Racing teammates Kasey Kahne and J.J. Yeley. Kahne, the defending series champion, spun during the early laps but recovered to come from the back to second in the closing laps.
East now leads the WorldCom National Midget car contingent to Virginia for the "USAC 200" events at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway on Saturday, October 13.
Dave Steele and Barry Reed rounded out the "top-five" in the nationally-televised Anderson race, which will air on ESPN2 at 9 pm (ET) on Monday, October 8. Tony Ave escaped injury in a flip while running second on the 37th lap of the race.
Tracy Hines, who finished sixth at Anderson, passed A.J. Fike (19th) for second in the series standings going into the South Boston debut, which will also feature the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car series on the 4/10-mile paved oval. <pre> USAC WORLDCOM NATIONAL MIDGET CAR SERIES STANDINGS
