Darland, Yeley continue Midget battle at Eldora'S "4-Crown".
Dave Darland of Kokomo, Ind. hopes to enhance his opportunities to repeat as the USAC National Midget Car Champion with a victory in this weekend's 22nd "4-Crown Nationals" at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
Darland leads Steve Lewis Racing teammate J.J. Yeley by 116 points with only 72 available at Eldora. Yeley is the defending "4-Crown" Midget Car Champion and has four series triumphs among his 12 total USAC 2002 feature wins.
Darland's two victories this year came back-to-back at Belleville, Kans. and Salem, Ind. and he and Yeley have contributed to car owner Steve Lewis' new all-time USAC car owner feature victory record of 100.
Practice at the 1/2-mile dirt track starts at 6:30 Friday. Qualifications for all four divisions are scheduled, along with heat races for Midget Cars, Sprint Cars and Modifieds.
Saturday night's events begin with a 12-lap Midget semi and a 12-lap Sprint Car semi. A 20-lap Weld Racing Silver Crown "qualifying race" and a Modified semi are also on tap. Saturday's feature events are 25 laps for Midget Cars, 30 laps for Sprint Cars, 50 laps for Silver Crown cars and 40 laps for the Modifieds.
Jason Leffler holds the 1-lap Eldora Midget Car track record of 16.231 seconds, established in 1998.
