Eldora: Race report

Rossburg, Ohio. - Results Saturday night (September 25) from the running of the "4-Crown Nationals" USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series finale at the Eldora Speedway, with starting position in parentheses, driver, money won, reason out if any and laps completed:

Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. led all 50 laps to win Saturday night's "4-Crown Nationals" feature event at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, while Dave Steele emerged as the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Champion after his 16th-place finish.

Steele, who drives for car owners Tony Stewart and Bob East, earned his first-ever USAC National driving title with a 47-point cushion over Bud Kaeding, who finished 13th at Eldora.

"The track was perfect," said Darland. "I love it when it's like this. My car owner (Galen Fox) gave me a great car and we just got a new engine with a lot of power."

Darland finished 1.22 seconds ahead of Kevin Huntley at the checkered flag. Mike Brecht, Rich Tobias, Jr. and Levi Jones rounded out the "top-five" at the finish.

Darland also won Saturday night's 25-lap USAC Midget feature but flipped during the 30-lap USAC Sprint race while running second. Dickie Gaines won the Sprint car feature.
