HARRIS' LAST-LAP VICTORY LAUNCHES HIM ATOP CALIFORNIA DIRT FOCUS POINTS AS SERIES TAKES BREAK

Alex Harris of Simi Valley, Calif. is the new points leader for the USAC California Ford Focus Dirt Midget Car Series heading into the Aug. 3 race at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, Calif.

Harris earned the series lead by virtue of his win Saturday at Watsonville Speedway in Watsonville, Calif. He passed Cameron Veach on the final lap of 25 to score the victory over Veach, Robbie Whitchurch, Chris Veach and Chase Barber. Barber's fifth-place finish put him in a three-point deficit to Harris.

While Harris and third-place points holder Audra Sasselli are separated by only 36 points, the points holders below have an even tighter battle. Fourth-place Cal Smith leads 10th-place holder Jet Davison by only 31 markers. <pre> CALIFORNIA FORD FOCUS DIRT MIDGET CAR SERIES STANDINGS 1. Alex Harris 551 6. Robbie Whitchurch 413 2.
