MARTZ EXTENDS MIDWEST FOCUS LEAD WITH KALAMAZOO VICTORY; LAKEVILLE RAINED OUT

Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. padded his USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series points lead Saturday with a victory at the 3/8-mile Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, Mich. The previous evening's scheduled event at Lakeville Speedway in Lakeville, Ohio was rained out.

Martz, driving the No. 1 Lafayette Emergency Medicine Physicians Beast/Ford Focus, led the final 25 laps of the 30-lapper for his third feature victory in six attempts this season. Early leader Ricky Ehrgott, Stephanie Mockler, Brandon Wagner and Derek Fisher trailed Martz at the checkered flag. Martz qualified at 101.7 mph -- the fastest qualifying lap in a Ford Focus car ever -- while Brandon Hartsell and Ronnie Wuerdeman won eight-lap heats.

With the win, Martz's points lead over Mockler improved slightly, now standing at 27.
