ROMANO EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD WITH USAC FORD FOCUS MIDGET MAIN WIN AT STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY
Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle driver wins first main event after eight runner-up finishes

STOCKTON, CALIF. (October 13, 2009) -- Nik Romano continued his chase of the USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Car Series in perfect fashion on Saturday (October 10), capturing both the pole position and Main win in Round 17 at Stockton 99 Speedway. In scoring his first Main victory of the season, the Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle standout further extended his championship lead entering the final two of races of the season.

A mere two weeks after racing at Stockton 99 Speedway for the first-time, Romano was back behind the wheel at the ¼-mile California oval. Given the Atherton, Calif., race pilot had captured the pole position with a new lap record and finished third in the Main in his inaugural visit, both the driver and the Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle crew were confident about their chances for further success.

This belief proved well founded, as right from the get go Romano was the driver to watch. The 2008 San Francisco Region SCCA Formula Ford Champion/Rookie of the Year and former Micro Sprints and Quarter Midgets champion entered Saturday qualifying, having repeatedly posted times below his own lap record in Friday testing. While conditions ultimately did not allow the 19 year-old RSWC driver to set a new lap record, Romano posted the fastest time in his three-lap qualifying run, earning a second consecutive pole position.

Returning to driver's seat of the No. 42 Dr. Glass Reactor Repair/Romold Precision Molding/Romano Cosmetic Surgery/Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle USAC Ford Focus Midget a short time later, Romano lined up sixth for Main, due to the field being inverted from qualifying. Romano immediately displayed the speed and skill of a future champion when the green flag waved, quickly working his way into the top-three. Continually attacking the paved oval, the talented teenager carved his way into second place.

Romano, utilizing his trademark high to low cut down line, repeatedly began pressuring the winningest driver from 2008 for the lead. After multiple attempts, the RSWC driver finally made the move stick. From that point forward, Romano extended his advantage with each passing lap. At the end of the 40-lap main event, Romano was a quarter of a lap ahead of second place, earning his first USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Car Series Main win of 2009.

"Nik was a smart racer today," stated Ron Sutton, head of Driver Development. "He worked the strategy we discussed and held his cards close to the vest -- until the main event. We are excited by his results this year -- and optimistic about his racing career."

Romano and the Ron Sutton Winner's Circle USAC Ford Focus Midget team return action on October 24th, with Round 18 of the USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Car Series at Madera Speedway. Romano enters the penultimate race on the calendar leading the championship chase.
