FOCUSES VISIT 3 VENUES THIS WEEK; HARRIS, WARD, MAIER & GREENUP TAKE CHECKERED FLAGS

USAC Ford Focus racing will occur at speedways in Indiana, Illinois and Utah this week.

Wednesday night's "Open Wheel Extravaganza" at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. features the Indiana Focus Series in addition to the Regional and Kenyon Midgets. Auston Harris of Hayward, Calif. leads the current standings after his May 28 win at Schererville, Ind.

Brad Greenup of Channahon, Ill. (USAC/UMARA) tops the list for Saturday's race at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill., while Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah is atop the Utah Auto Trader standings going into Saturday's race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City.

Michael Mohelski of Frederick, Md. leads the Carolina Series to a June 14 race at Shenandoah (Va.) Speedway and Justin Hommel of Canyon Lake, Calif. tops the California Pavement points going into a June 28 race at Tracy, Calif.

Harris became the first African-American driver ever to win a feature event in USAC competition, leading the final 16 laps of the 30-lap Midwest/Indiana/UMARA Ford Focus race on the 1/4-mile paved oval at Schererville, Ind. Harris piloted the Bob East Beast sponsored by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Take 25 Campaign. Harris, at age 17, is a veteran of endurance racing and has competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona. This is his first season of USAC competition. Harris passed Kyle Hamilton on lap 15 and held off a determined bid from runner-up Steven Mathews. Hamilton took third ahead of Jordan Pennington and Harris' teammate Julia Landauer.

Greenup of Channahon, Ill. captured Saturday night's 12-lap USAC/UMARA Ford Focus feature at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Greenup grabbed the lead from Marc Wachter on lap 11 and held on for the win as Wachter was involved in a last-lap flip. The race also featured a flip by Tyler Trainer but neither driver was injured. Tanner Whitten, Kyle Kettman, Sara Hyslop and Bob Adams rounded out the "top-five."

Mike Maier gave the city of Hayward, Calif. its second straight USAC Ford Focus feature win Saturday night, winning the 25-lap California Pavement race at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. Auston Harris, also of Hayward, won Wednesday night's Midwest/Indiana/UMARA feature at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. Maier passed Garrett Peterson on lap 18 and led the rest of the way to beat Peterson, who led the first 17 laps, Alex Bowman, Charles Maier and Justin Hommel.

Michael Ward of Charlotte, N.C. won Saturday night's 35-lap USAC Carolina Ford Focus feature presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, N.C. Ward took the lead from Shane MacMillan on lap 21 and never looked back, beating series point leader Michael Mohelski, fast qualifier Bradley Riethmeyer, MacMillan and Steven Intravaia to the checkered flag. Mohelski leads the series standings by one over Ward as a result.
