Scott Wins at South Boston
Mcgowan 1st at Madera, Heads for Perris
Midwest Focuses Open Sunday at Anderson
Chase Scott, the 18-year-old son of legendary motorcycle racer Hank Scott and brother of USAC Midget veteran Ryan Scott, captured Saturday night's "Corporate Images" 50-lap Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Car feature at the South Boston (Va.) Speedway. The victory gives him the series point lead going into a May 8 race at South Boston.
Trailing Scott at the checkered flag were Erica Santos, Travis Jones, Mike Ward and Terry Hall. Scott was also the night's fastest qualifier. Santos led the opening lap, then yielded to Kevin Conway, who led the next 37 laps before succumbing to Scott's challenge.
Bobby McGowan of Ramona, Calif. won Saturday night's 25-lap USAC Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget feature at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway, part of the track's "Fred Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic." McGowan wheeled the Motive Energy/No Fear Beast to the win, beating Bradley Galedrige, Chris Rahe, Chase Barber and Nick Morago. McGowan emerged with the California Ford Focus North and South Series point leads as a result, with the South Series set to resume this Saturday night at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. A 25-lap feature is slated for the 1/2-mile dirt oval. The California North Ford Focus Series will resume April 24 at Madera.
Steve Davis led the first 20 laps at Madera before McGowan caught him and led the final five laps on the 1/3-mile pavement.
The USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series debuts this Sunday at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway with a 50-lap feature, part of the track's "Glen Niebel Classic" program featuring the USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car Series.
