Memphis, Tenn. -- August 18, 2004 - The R.E Technologies Racing team hopes to better their finish by two positions at the Tony Bettenhausen 100 at Springfield, Ill. Saturday.
Last year the team claimed a third place finish on the one-mile dirt oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. This year they will have two capable drivers behind the wheel to accomplish the feat. USAC veteran, Jerry Coons Jr. will drive the No. 191 Hemelgarn 91/Johnson Motorsports/ R.E. Technologies Racing Silver Crown™ car. USAC Silver Crown™ rookie, Boston Reid will pilot the No. 35 Curb Records J&J chassis Silver Crown™ machine.
"I am excited about returning to the dirt track portion of our schedule because our dirt track package is one of the better combinations in the Weld Racing Silver Crown™ Series," said Reid.
"Springfield is a fun racetrack," smiled Coons. "It is a little bit wider and little racier than Indy. It is the kind of race you have to run hard but you have to conserve your tires. You have to make sure they last during the day. I like running the silver crown cars on the miles."
Coons and Reid plan on sharing information and ideas this weekend.
"Jerry has run well on the dirt in the past," said Reid. "Anything we can share with each other should help us perform well was a team."
"Part of being teammates is helping each other out," agreed Coons. "Boston is coming along really well. He has got a good future in front of him. If there is anything I can help him along with, I will do that."
Coons and the team have had success at the Tony Bettenhausen 100. The Arizona native has finished second the last three years. Last season, Coons drove for Jarvis Enterprises at Springfield.
"Unfortunately the wins have eluded us at Springfield," said Coons. "I think we are more experienced now. With everyone's experience, we will see if we can finally pull off a win. We have run second enough times. I think it is time to run one spot better."
NO TIME TO REST
The R.E. Technologies race team has no time to rest as they prepare to run five USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown events in just six weeks. The team will visit a paved oval (Nazareth) and four dirt tracks (Springfield, DuQuoin, Tulsa and Eldora) in the upcoming weeks.
