4-RACE EASTERN TOUR NEXT UP FOR SPRINT CARS; "ROOKIE" SWANSON TAKES "GLEN NIEBEL CLASSIC;" JONES GETS 2ND "TONY HULMAN CLASSIC" VICTORY

The USAC National Sprint Car Series heads for the Eastern U.S. next week for races June 3-4-5 and 7. The Tuesday venue is Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. A long-awaited return to Williams Grove (Pa.) Speedway is on tap Wednesday night and Thursday night's race is at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa. The finale is Saturday night at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway.

Defending USAC National Sprint Car Champion Levi Jones of Avon, Ind. is now a two-time winner of the "Tony Hulman Classic" at the Terre Haute Action Track. The 2005 winner and current series point leader led all but nine laps of Thursday night's 38th First Financial "Tony Hulman Classic" presented by Budweiser, leading the final 17 laps after Jerry Coons Jr. had to pit to replace a flat left rear tire. Coons led the first lap and eight others before the tire went down.

Jones piloted Tony Stewart's Chevy/Bas Pro Shops Maxim/Kistler Chevy to a narrow victory over Brad Kuhn, who made the final laps interesting. Darren Hagen, Daron Clayton and Cole Whitt trailed at the checkered flag.

Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. made his first USAC National Sprint Car start memorable, winning Wednesday night's 100-lap 9th Annual "Glen Niebel Classic" presented by Sam Pierce Chevrolet at Anderson Speedway. Swanson, who leads USAC's Western Sprint standings, trailed Jones for the first 51 laps, then led the final 49 in his Construction Solutions/Bilstein Beast/Gaerte Mopar. Brad Sweet finished a close second, followed by Bobby Santos III, Whitt and Chris Windom.

Jones was lapping another car when the two tangled, sending Jones into the second-turn wall. He eventually restarted the race but finished 16th. A multi-car accident erupted on lap 79 which included a flip by Brady Short, who escaped injury. Brady Bacon, who finished seventh in the 100-lap race, emerged as the new National Sprint series point leader, but is now second to Jones after finishing 12th at Terre Haute.
