COONS TAKES SILVER CROWN LEAD TO IOWA AUGUST 10; DARLAND CAPTURES "SUMAR CLASSIC 100; WIRE-TO-WIRE VICTORY IN "J.D. BYRIDER 100" FOR EAST

Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. is atop the K & N USAC Silver Crown Series point standings and will lead the series presented by Optima Batteries to its next event, the "Casey's General Stores 100" at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Ia. August 10.

Coons finished second at Terre Haute, Ind. last Wednesday and fifth at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis Thursday and emerged with a 23-point margin over Levi Jones going into the Iowa race.

Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. won Wednesday night's First Financial Bank "Sumar Classic 100" at the Terre Haute Action Track, leading 68 of the 100 laps. Darland held off repeated challenges from runner-up Coons, while Shane Cottle took third ahead of Brian Tyler and Mat Neely. Coons led 20 laps and Jones, who finished seventh, led 12. Darland started on the pole at Terre Haute in his Jarvis Enterprises/Plastic Express Beast/Foxco Chevy

Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. led all 100 laps of Thursday night's "J.D. Byrider 100" presented by TourHendricksCounty.com at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis in his Ford Racing/The Car Lot Beast/Ford. The victory was worth $9,500 to his Klatt Enterprises team. East started next to pole starter Shane Hmiel but grabbed the lead at the start and never looked back. NASCAR star Ryan Newman started third and finished second ahead of Chet Fillip, Darland and Coons. Jones finished seventh in Thursday's 100-lap race, which was slowed by only two caution flags.
