Eden, Armstrong, Kenyon Land Speedrome Titles
Finales To Bohanon, Young & Clemons
Eden Usac's 1st Female Champion!; Armstrong Youngest Ever!

Sondi Eden of Crawfordsville, Ind. etched her name into the USAC history books Wednesday night as the sanctioning body's initial female driving champion in its 49-year history. She was joined in the championship spotlight at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome by 13-year-old Dakoda Armstrong of New Castle, Ind., USAC's youngest driving champion in history, and Brice Kenyon of Lebanon, Ind., son of legendary 7-time USAC National Midget titlist Mel Kenyon.

Eden captured the track's Regional Midget title, while Armstrong won the Kenyon Midget championship and Kenyon emerged as the Ford Focus Midget king.

Eden finished sixth behind winner Travis Young of Franklin, Ind. to beat Young by 41 points for the 2004 title. At age 28 she becomes the first female driving champion in USAC history. The highest previous point ranking for a female driver was second in the 1989 TQ Midget Series by Kara Hendrick. Trailing Young's Matlock Ford Vogler/White Ford Fontana at the checkered flag were Rex Norris III, Keith Butler, Adam Schuyler and Deano Lennon. Butler led the first 14 laps and Young led the final 36.

Armstrong finished fourth in the 50-lap Kenyon feature behind winner Nick Bohanon of Jeffersonville, Ind. and emerged with a six-point cushion over Bohanon in the final series standings. At age 13 he eclipses 16-year-old C.J. Mears, winner of USAC's 1995 Russell Pro Triple Crown title, as the youngest USAC driving champion in history. Buddy Lowther led the first 10 laps of the finale before Bohanon took command in his Yamaha-powered machine. Zach Jacobs, Derek Bischak, Armstrong and Jonathan Hendrick rounded out the "top-five" at the finish.

Kenyon's Ford Focus title comes 40 years after the first of his father Mel's seven USAC National championships! He concluded the season with a 22-point margin over runner-up Andy Baber after a sixth-place finish in the 50-lap finale behind race winner Joshua Clemons of Greenfield, Ind. Clemons led the final 26 laps in his Clemons Hauling Kenyon chassis after passing Paul Dana on lap 25. Rex Norris III, Dana, Jimmy Light and Travis Young trailed at the checkered flag.

Traderindiana.com and Wheels and Deals presented the 2004 USAC "Open Wheel Wednesday" events at the 1/5-mile paved Indianapolis oval.
