CENTER LINE, Mich. - In eight years of professional racing, Cory Kruseman has earned many titles: Non-Winged World Champion, SCRA Champion, Chili Bowl Champion, USAC Indiana Sprint Week Champion, Western States Dirt Track Champion, ESPN Points TQ Series Winner, TQ Midget Fall Nationals Champion, and 2001 National Sprint Car Driver of the Year.
As the newest member of the Mopar-powered Tony Stewart Motorsports team, the 31-year-old Ventura, Calif. native intends to maintain his winning ways.
"Joining Tony Stewart Motorsports and Team Mopar is one heck of an opportunity," said Kruseman, who will drive in the USAC National Sprint Dirt and Pavement Series. "I'm very appreciative to have come so far during my career. I intend to make the best of this opportunity by showing Tony he made the right choice in placing his confidence in my driving abilities. Our overall goal this year as a team is to win all three USAC divisions, and I'm just excited to contribute to this wild ride we're taking."
Kruseman joins Tony Stewart Motorsports and Team Mopar in the midst of a very successful racing career which includes a 1999 championship in the Non- Winged World series, a 2000 Chili Bowl title, 15 wins and a championship in the 2001 SCRA series, capped by earning the USAC Indiana Sprint week title in 2002. He finished sixth in the SCRA point standings with four wins, and placed ninth in USAC Sprint car points with four wins in 2002, while missing a number of races in both series due to scheduling conflicts. Kruseman also made his debut in the IRL series at the Texas Motor Speedway, and in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series at Phoenix International Raceway.
The inclusion of Kruseman adds to the momentum of Tony Stewart Motorsports and Team Mopar that started with the 2003 Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Okla. The team finished second (Jay Drake) and third (Stewart) in the season-opening Midget Nationals. Additionally, Kruseman went to victory lane in the Chili Bowl nationals 25-lap qualifying showdown by holding off Stewart, his soon- to-be boss. "Tony and I are very good friends," explained Kruseman. "But when I put the helmet on and get in the car, I'm all business."
Speaking of business, "The Kruser" also runs Cory Kruseman's Sprint Car Driving School at Ventura Raceway in California.
