USAC's Weld Racing Silver Crown Series returns to the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds this Sunday night for the "Ted Horn 100," one of America's most traditional motorsports events. The race, which dates back to 1948, honors the memory of the AAA National Driving Champion who lost his life at the 1-mile oval in 1948. Last year marked the first time the race was held under the new track lighting system and race fans are eager for the return appearance unde the lights!

Practice on the 1-mile dirt oval begins at 5 pm and qualifications start at 6. A 15-mile "qualifying race" at 7:30 precedes the 100-mile feature event and Rich Tobias, Jr. of Annville, Pa. will return to defend his 2003 victory.

Tyler Walker of Los Angeles, Calif. finally found the winners circle in the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series Sunday afternoon, winning the "Bully Hill Vineyards 100" at the Nazareth Speedway in his Curb Records/Brown & Miller Plumbing Beast/Dodge.

Walker, who had two previous third-place career finishes, gave car owner Kasey Kahne his second consecutive Nazareth triumph. Kahne won last year's Nazareth 100-miler in a driving role.

"The car was great all day," Walker said in victory lane. "I use a little of my tires trying to catch Dave (Steele, the pole winner and race leader) but a got a run off the last corner by going wide and staying there. Once I got by it was hard for him to get past me. This has been a long time coming (his 28th career start). I haven't finished a race this year, so I finally finish one and I win. I guess that's pretty good."

Steele, of Tampa, Fla., led the first 80 miles of the race after winning the pole at 135.140 mph. Walker made his winning move on lap 81 and stayed there until the checkered flag despite pressure from Steele in the closing laps.

Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. finished third ahead of Jay Drake of Val Verde, Calif. and Dane Carter of Brownsburg, Ind. Trailing Kaeding in Sunday's "top-10" were Tracy Hines, Russ Gamester, Eric Gordon and John Heydenreich.

Four cautions slowed the race as Walker averaged 103.043 mph for the 100 miles.

Steele's victory leaves him with a 100-point lead over Bud Kaeding, who finished sixth Sunday, going into Sunday night's race at DuQuoin.
