Nazareth: Race report

Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. captured Saturday's 30-mile USAC National Midget Car race at the Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway, beating series point leader Bobby East to the checkered flag after a heated duel on the 1-mile paved oval.

Steele trailed East for the first 24 laps, then made his winning move to put his Nicholas Motorsports/Mopar Beast in front on lap 25. East applied pressure right to the conclusion but was unable to regain the top spot. Aaron Fike, Ron Gregory and Cole Carter rounded out the "top-five" at the finish,

East broke the track record on Friday with his pole-winning speed of 136.327 mph and maintains a comfortable point lead over series runner-up Josh Wise going into a September 10 race at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.

Steele's victory boosted him to sixth in the new series point standings.
