Boat leads NM/AZ sprinters to Aztec Saturday.
Series adds July 19 date at Sertoma Speedway in Tularosa, NM.

Mike Boat of Phoenix, Ariz. will try to protect his 33-point lead in the USAC New Mexico/Arizona Sprint Car Series standings this Saturday when the series makes its inaugural appearance at the Aztec (NM) Speedway.

Boat won the May 18 race at Tucson, Ariz. and hopes to become the first two-time winner in the new series, but will face a formidable field at Aztec's 3/8-mile dirt oval. Series point leaders Mike Martin and Rick Sipes, plus Steve Nix and lady driver Kaylene Verville are all expected to compete in the program of events which concludes with a 30-lap feature.

Verville became the first lady in history to win a USAC Sprint car feature, taking the May 25 race at Thunder Raceway in Show Low, Ariz., while Rick Ziehl won the series opener April 20 at Las Cruces, N.M.

In additional series news, Sertoma Speedway in Tularosa, N.M. has joined the 2002 schedule with a Friday night, July 19 event on the 3/8-mile dirt oval. The feature will be a 30-lapper. Additional dates are also in the negotiation stage and will be announced when firm. At present the series encompasses 10 events.
