"BATTLE AT THE BRICKYARD" ATTRACTING 4TH GENERATION DRIVERS

The July 8-11 "Battle at the Brickyard" USAC .25 Midget spectacular is beginning to attract a stellar field of drivers from across the country.

In addition to the various class point leaders and 2009 race winners, entire families are expected to take part in what promises to be an historic event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the World's Greatest Race Course.

One fourth-generation driver in particular has deep roots in USAC and other forms of racing. Austin "A.J." Jordon Nemire of Toledo, Ohio is the son of Kenny, grandson of former USAC racer Jerry and great-grandson of the late Kenny Sr. The great-grandfather raced in the early to mid-1950s with ARCA and MARC and recorded many wins at Toledo Raceway Park. Jerry competed for four decades and was a regular in USAC Silver Crown and sprint racing. The Nemire Racing Team, including Jerry and his two sons J.D. and Kenny, won the 1997 ARCA Midget Series championship.

Jerry, who won the 1996 Knoxville (IA) Master Classic Rookie honors, was forced into retirement from race driving due to his bout with cancer but his passion for the sport has never waned. His racing talent produced a victory and a second indoors at Fort Wayne, Ind. as well as numerous top USAC-sanctioned race finishes.

A.J.'s career began in the Junior Novice Quarter Midgets and has included track records and top finishes. He is slated to compete in the Light AA, Light BB and Mod Classes at the Brickyard.

Entries have already been received from drivers representing Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigam, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, California and Florida.

The July 8-11 "Battle at the Brickyard" will mark the first .25 Midget event at IMS under USAC sanction. Class competition is slated in Junior and Senior Rookie, Junior, Senior and Heavy Honda, Junior and Senior Stock, Light and Heavy 160, Light and Heavy World Formula, Light and Heavy AA, Light BB, Heavy B, Light and Heavy Mod and Half classes.
